Emails from Nectvia
Nectvia sends a small number of emails, and only to a confirmed email address. Most of them are off until you choose them. This page lists every kind.
Activity emails
Activity emails tell you about things that happen on Nectvia while you are away. There are two kinds:
- Connection activity: new connection requests, and when someone accepts your request.
- Unread direct messages: one email when messages have been waiting a while. The email never contains the message itself.
Activity emails are off unless you turn them on. During sign-up with an email address, once you have confirmed the address, Nectvia asks which ones you want. Both boxes start unticked. Tick the ones you want and choose Save and continue, or choose Not now to leave both off, even if you ticked a box.
You can change your choice at any time in Settings > Preferences, under Email notifications. Choose Save preferences after changing a box.
Activity emails are sent only to a confirmed address. If your address is not confirmed yet, the settings page asks you to confirm it first. An account that signed up with Bluesky and has no email address receives no activity emails.
Welcome email
After you confirm your email address, Nectvia sends one welcome email. It links to three next steps: importing from LinkedIn, finding people, and this help section.
The welcome email is sent once. It contains no news, offers or third-party content, and no tracking. Because it is sent only once, it has no unsubscribe link. It is not sent to accounts without a confirmed email address.
News from Nectvia
Nectvia sends occasional news about Nectvia by email, only to members who have asked for it and confirmed that request. This is called double opt-in.
You can ask for news in three places:
- the optional box on the registration form, "Send me occasional news from Nectvia by email";
- the News from Nectvia by email? card in your feed;
- Send me news in Settings > Preferences, under News from Nectvia.
Asking for news sends you a confirmation email with a link. The link is valid for 7 days. No news is sent until you open the link and choose Confirm. If your email address is not confirmed yet, the confirmation email is sent after you confirm your address.
Changing your primary email address withdraws your news subscription, because the new address has not confirmed anything. Ask again from the new address if you still want news.
Unsubscribing
Every activity email ends with an unsubscribe link. Opening it and choosing Unsubscribe turns off all activity emails. You do not need to sign in.
Every news email also has an unsubscribe link, which stops news emails. You can also choose Unsubscribe under News from Nectvia in Settings > Preferences. Unsubscribing stops future emails. It does not affect emails already sent.
You can turn any of these back on later in Settings > Preferences.
Emails you always receive
Some emails are part of using your account and cannot be turned off:
- codes to confirm your email address, reset your password or sign in;
- the link to a copy of your data, when you request one;
- notices about your account or content, such as a moderation decision;
- essential notices about Nectvia that affect your account.
