Importing from LinkedIn

Nectvia can read the data export that LinkedIn gives you and use it to fill in your profile. The import is optional. You can do it during sign-up, or later from the Import page.

Which archive to download

  1. On LinkedIn, open Settings & Privacy, then Data Privacy, then Download your data.
  2. Choose the larger download, which includes everything, then Request archive.
  3. LinkedIn emails you a download link. The quick file is usually ready in about 10 minutes. The full archive can take up to 24 hours.
  4. Download the ZIP file from that email.

Upload the ZIP file as LinkedIn sent it. You do not need to unzip it. The file can be up to 95MB. A file that unpacks to more than 200MB is refused, because a LinkedIn export is much smaller than that.

What the import brings in

The import reads your positions, education, skills, certifications, projects, endorsements, posts, articles, connections and messages. When it finishes, a summary shows what came over and how many posts were new.

You can import again later, for example with a fresh export. Posts that were already imported are skipped. If the newest post in the summary looks old, download a new export from LinkedIn and import it again.

The import also reads the recommendations you have received. Recommendations imported before October 2026 were stored wrongly: the recommender's company appeared in place of the text, and sometimes the wrong person was named. Nectvia has removed them. Import your export again to add them back correctly.

Nectvia limits how many imports you can start in one hour. If several members are importing at the same moment, the page asks you to try again in a few minutes. Nothing is lost in either case.

Your posts and articles

Before you upload, you choose what happens to your imported posts and articles:

  • Keep them private (recommended). Only you can see them. You can publish the ones you want later.
  • Publish them on Nectvia. Everyone on Nectvia can see them, apart from posts you had set to "Only me" on LinkedIn. You can hide any of them later.

How contacts are matched

Your LinkedIn connections are listed on the My Network page. A contact who is not on Nectvia is marked On LinkedIn.

Nectvia matches a contact to a member only by email address, and only when that member has confirmed the address with Nectvia. A name or a LinkedIn profile link never matches a contact or sends a request, because anyone can type those into a file.

When a contact matches, Nectvia sends a connection request from you to that member. They decide whether to accept or ignore it. The import never creates a connection on its own. If a contact joins Nectvia later with a confirmed address that matches your export, they receive a request from you at that point.

No request is sent to a member you already have a connection or a past request with, including one that was ignored or withdrawn.

LinkedIn exports include few contacts' email addresses. Most contacts are therefore not matched. The summary says how many requests were sent.

Privacy of your export

Your export stays private. Nectvia reads it into your Nectvia account and does not publish anything from it without your choice.

  • Your contacts list is visible only to you.
  • Imported LinkedIn messages are read-only and visible only to you. When a contact joins Nectvia, you can start a new conversation with them. If a profile link in your messages belongs to a Nectvia member, Nectvia shows who the message was with, unless one of you has blocked the other or their account is hidden or suspended.
  • Positions, education and skills appear on your profile, as they do when you enter them by hand.
  • Nothing from the import is written to your AT Protocol account unless you turn on publishing for that type of data. See Publishing to your AT Protocol account.
