Connections and follows
Nectvia has two kinds of relationship between members: connections and follows. They do different things.
Connections
A connection is two-way. One member sends a request with Connect, and the other member accepts or ignores it. Requests you have received and sent are on the My Network page.
When a request is accepted:
- each of you can see the other's posts and articles set to Connections only;
- each of you follows the other automatically;
- each of you can send the other direct messages without a message request.
Removing a connection also removes both follows between you.
You need a confirmed email address to send a connection request.
Follows
A follow is one-way. Choose Follow on a member's profile to see their public posts and articles in your feed. The member is not asked to approve it.
A follow grants no visibility. Following someone shows you only what they have made public, which anyone on Nectvia can already see. Their Connections only content stays hidden unless you are also a connection.
In Settings > Privacy, under Who can follow me, you can choose Anyone on Nectvia or My connections only. Switching to My connections only removes every existing follower who is not a connection.
You can also follow tags and companies. Public posts with a tag you follow appear in your Home feed. See Companies for company follows.
The feed tabs
The feed has four tabs. Nectvia remembers the tab you used last.
- Home shows your own posts, posts from your connections, public posts from members you follow, public posts with a tag you follow, and posts from companies you follow.
- Following shows posts from members and companies you follow, without your own posts. From a follow that is not a connection, it shows public posts only.
- Companies shows public posts from people who work at your current company, based on the positions on your profile.
- Everyone shows every public post and article on Nectvia, newest first.
A post you cannot see on its own page never appears in any tab. Posts by members you have blocked, or who have blocked you, do not appear either. Tags you have muted are left out of every tab.
Lists
A list is a group of members you choose, such as former colleagues or people in your field. Open a list from the Lists page to see a feed of posts from just those members.
Lists are private. Only you can see your lists, and nobody is told that they are on one.
A list grants no visibility either. A list feed shows public posts and articles from its members, plus Connections only content from members who are also your connections.
Limits:
- up to 20 lists;
- up to 500 members on each list;
- up to 5 lists pinned to your feed.
A pinned list appears as an extra tab next to the four feed tabs. Choose Pin to feed on a list to add it, and Unpin to remove it. Deleting a list does not affect the members on it.
You cannot add yourself to a list. Blocking a member removes them from your lists.
