Signing up
You can create a Nectvia account in two ways: with an email address and a password, or with a Bluesky account. While Nectvia is invite-only, both ways need an invite code or a waitlist link. See Invite codes and the waitlist.
Email address or Bluesky
With an email address. The registration form asks for your full name, a username, your email address and a password. The password must be at least 8 characters long, and very common passwords are not accepted. The form also has an optional box for occasional news from Nectvia by email. It is not ticked unless you tick it. Choose Register to continue. Nectvia then sends a code to your address.
With Bluesky. Choose Sign up with Bluesky and enter your handle, for example you.bsky.social. A handle is the name your Bluesky account goes by. Sign-up works with any AT Protocol account host, such as Bluesky, Eurosky or Blacksky, and Nectvia detects yours automatically. Your account host asks you to approve the sign-in. Nectvia then asks for your name and a username.
A Bluesky sign-up does not ask for an email address or a password. You sign in with your handle. You can add an email address and a password later in Settings. See AT Protocol and Bluesky for what an account host is.
Confirm your email address
After you register with an email address, Nectvia sends a 6-digit code to that address. Enter the code on the Verify your email page and choose Verify email. The code expires after 15 minutes. If it does not arrive, choose Didn't get it? Resend code.
Until your address is confirmed, the account cannot post, send messages or send connection requests. A banner at the top of each page links back to the confirmation step.
If you used an invite code, the code is held for you until you confirm. Nobody else can use it during that time, and it is used up only when your address is confirmed.
An unconfirmed sign-up expires 48 hours after registration and is then removed. Removing it frees the username and returns the invite code, so you can register again. Nectvia sends nothing to the address when it removes the sign-up. The confirmation email itself says that the sign-up is removed within 48 hours, so a person who receives it by mistake can ignore it.
Wrong address?
If you mistyped your email address, choose Wrong address? Change it on the verify page. Enter the correct address, and Nectvia sends a new code to it. A code sent to the old address no longer works.
Changing the address keeps your username and your invite code. It does not restart the 48 hours: the sign-up is still removed 48 hours after you first registered, unless you confirm before then.
You can change the address 3 times for each sign-up. A fourth change is refused with the message "You have changed the address too many times. This sign-up will expire within 48 hours; you can then register again."
If you are signed in to an older account whose address was never confirmed, the link takes you to the email section of Settings > Account instead.
After sign-up
Once your address is confirmed, Nectvia continues with the sign-up steps described in Getting started. You can sign in afterwards with your email address and password, or with your handle if you signed up with Bluesky.
