Getting started
Nectvia is a professional network. You keep a profile with your work history, share posts and articles, and build a network of connections. This page covers the first steps after you create an account.
Your first steps
Sign-up has two short steps. The first step depends on how you signed up.
- Your activity emails, or your name and username. If you signed up with an email address, you chose your name and username on the registration form. Once you have confirmed your address, the first step asks which activity emails you want. Both boxes start unticked. Tick the ones you want and choose Save and continue, or choose Not now to leave both off. See Emails from Nectvia. If you signed up with Bluesky, the first step asks for your name and username instead.
- Import from LinkedIn. This step is optional. You can upload your LinkedIn data export to fill in your positions, education, skills and posts, or choose Skip for now — I'll import later. See Importing from LinkedIn.
After that, Nectvia shows your feed.
Choose a username
Your username is the address of your public profile: nectvia.work/@ followed by your username. Anyone can open that address, including people who are not signed in.
A username is 3 to 30 characters long. It can contain lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores. Spaces are not allowed. Each username belongs to one account only, so a username someone else already has is refused.
You can change your username at any time in Settings > Account.
The Get started checklist
New members see a Get started card at the top of the feed. It lists the things that make Nectvia useful, and it ticks each one off by itself once it is done. Nothing on the card has to be done in order.
The card has these items:
- Add a profile photo. Upload one in your profile editor.
- Write a headline. A headline is the one line under your name, such as your role and field.
- Import your LinkedIn data. Upload your export, or choose Skip if you do not want to.
- Follow or connect with 3 people. People you follow and accepted connections both count. Each person counts once.
- Follow a tag. Public posts with a tag you follow appear in your Home feed.
- Follow a company. Posts from companies you follow appear in your feed.
- Choose your email notifications. This item appears only if your account has a confirmed email address. It is ticked once you have answered the email step during sign-up, saved your choice in Settings > Preferences, or turned an activity email on. Choosing Not now also counts as an answer.
The card shows how many items are done. When every item is done, the card disappears and does not come back, even if you later unfollow someone. You can also dismiss it with Dismiss. Dismissing it is permanent.
The card also links to Settings > Privacy, where you choose who can message you and who can follow you.
Finding your way around
- Feed. The feed has four tabs: Home, Following, Companies and Everyone. See Connections and follows.
- My Network. Connection requests, your connections and the contacts from your LinkedIn export are on the My Network page.
- Messages. Direct messages between members. Members who are not your connections can send you a message request, unless you turn that off.
- Settings. Your account, privacy, email preferences, AT Protocol publishing and your data.
Who can see what
A new account starts with a public profile. Each post has its own visibility: Public, Connections only or Only me. See Who can see what before you post for the first time.

Every help page is listed on the Help index. Pages that explain a screen are also linked from that screen with a "?" icon.
